Birthmother Expenses

State law allows for adoptive parents to pay for medical expenses and "reasonable living expenses" of birthmothers. Most of our birthmothers are on Medicaid, and have no medical expenses. The baby will be placed on Medicaid as well, and will have no medical expenses. The birthmother may need help paying a utility or telephone bill, paying rent, or buying groceries. Christian Family Services pays these expenses, and the adoptive family is responsible for repaying the agency for the birthmother's expenses on the day the baby is placed in their care.
